Founded in 2004, a committee of music experts selected 5 artists to gain automatic inauguration into the UK Music Hall Of Fame. These artists were:
- Elvis Presley
- The Beatles
- Bob Marley
- Madonna
- U2
The committee then selected 10 influential artists to represent each decade. The resulting five 'shortlists' were then put to the public vote, the winner of each category being inducted into the UK Music Hall Of Fame. The winners on this basis, announced at the Hackney Empire on 11th November 2004, were:
- Cliff Richard (1950s)
- Rolling Stones (1960s)
- Queen (1970s)
- Michael Jackson (1980s)
- Robbie Williams (1990s)
In 2005, the following were inducted:
- Pink Floyd
- The Who
- Bob Dylan
- The Kinks
- Joy Divison / New Order
- Aretha Franklin
- Jimi Hendrix
- The Eurythmics
- Ozzy Osbourne
- Black Sabbath
